The BICS Train you Trainer Weekend took place in NUI Galway on September 11th – 13th. In its first year the aim of the weekend was to bring students and staff together for a three days to provide them with the tools to deliver training modules to their societies in their own institute and to share best practice in a numbers of areas of Society administration.
General Topics Covered:
- Learning outcomes
- Games for embedding learning
- PR & Social Media
- Google and Excel solutions for society administration
- BICS Awards
- Sponsorship & Fundraising
- Effective Meetings & Team Building
The attendees were given the handouts and presentations necessary to deliver the two topics covered in the training sessions and the general topics provided the background skills which can be used to enhance any training module they choose to give in their own institute. All the training information is now available on line in the resource section. Participants alos had the opportunity to work in small groups to deliver their training module to the group on the Sunday and to put that they had learnt into practice.
Each participant will deliver 3 training sessions to their societies on their topic. The deadline for this is March 1st 2016. And collect feedback form their attendees.
After this Participants will complete a short evaluation survey.
At the end of the process the participants will reflect on their experience.
Once the follow-up work is completed, participants will receive a BICS Certificate.
There were 38 attendees from 10 colleges CIT, DBS, DIT, ITB, ITTD, ITT, LYIT, Mary I, NUIG and UCC
The feedback from participants was very positive so plans are now in train for a similar weekend next year. Details will be available late in Semester 2.
A big thank you to all involved, to NUI Galway for hosting the event and the eight facilitators who made the weekend possible.
