As part of a fundraising day in aid of Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind, starting at 11am and culminating in a night of comedy and music with ‘Round of Appaws for Guide Dogs’ at 7:30pm, NUIG Comedy Soc & Society of Saint Vincent de Paul held two bake sales with doggo representatives at them, starting at 11am. One was in the foyer of the James Hardiman Library, NUIG, and the other was in the foyer of Áras na Mac Léinn.
There were tasty baked goods aplenty for sale with all proceeds going to Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind. We engaged with our fellow societies and students to help us build up our stacks of baked goods to sell, and there were also collection buckets to chip in whatever extra change people could spare.
Then at 7:30pm in Sult NUI Galway (our College Bar) we had a big comedy gig Round of Appaws for Guide Dogs, with pizza & passes to Electric Garden & Theatre and FourFour nightclubs for everyone in the audience. The headliner of the night was Edwin Sammon, the star of RTE’s ‘Bridget & Eamon’ and ‘Republic of Telly’.
We felt this day-long event helped to ease the stresses of passing students as spending some time with our furry volunteers and enjoying some fresh baked goods always eases a stressed mind! And a night of comedy and laughter surely contributes to a healthier frame of mind also.
