The BICS Annual General Meeting took place online on Friday, 13th June 2025 via Zoom.
Outgoing Chairperson Ríona Hughes gave an overview of the progress made over the past year, highlighting the work put into overhauling the Awards application process by the Awards Review working group. Other highlights include the re-establishment of the BICS Forum, which was held in Dublin in January, the presence of BICS at the ASUA and SAI conferences, and the release of the first suite of new BICS training modules.
A motion was passed to allow independent satellite campuses to elect a student representative to the Board separately to their parent institution, e.g. allowing Limerick School of Art and Design (LSAD) to have a separate representative to TUS Midwest.
A new position was also introduced to the Executive, with the motion to create a Vice-Chairperson for Student Engagement passing. This new role, which may only be filled by a student member of the Board, will be responsible for developing the Student Network and encouraging engagement from student members of the Board.
These motions were followed by the election of the new BICS Executive. The elected Executive for 2025/26 are as follows:
- Chairperson: Laura Woods, MTU Kerry
- Vice-Chairperson (Awards Coordinator): Dave Cuddihy, Mary I
- Treasurer: Mary O’Toole, University of Galway
- Secretary: Treacy McIntyre, TUS Midlands-Midwest
- Communications Officer: Aisling Hennessy, MTU Cork
- Vice-President Student Engagement: Aoife James, MTU Cork
- Staff Executive Members: Aisling Ryan, University of Limerick; Gemma McConigly, UCC; Kaytee Behan, TUD; and Ríona Hughes, University of Galway
- Student Executive Members: Alan O’Brien, MTU Kerry; Caoimhe Collins, UCC; Simone James, IADT; and Sinéad Cryan, UL.
Closing out the meeting, incoming Chairperson Laura Woods welcomed IADT to the Board as the newest member institute of BICS, and thanked outgoing Chairperson, Ríona Hughes, for her conributions.
